Sunken tatami seating in a minimalist interior give the central Japanese restaurant an authentic feel - and thankfully the dining pit is not so deep you have to clamber on all fours to exit. The menu is extensive: bento boxes, Japanese curry, donburi, yakitori, katsu, ramen and udon noodles and a separate sushi menu. Prices are reasonable - kimuchi pork noodles in a hot, sour soup base (£8.50), prawn katsu curry (£9.50), tofu donburi (£7.50). Chefs specials, defined as rice served on plates as opposed to bowls, include grilled monkfish in teriyaki sauce. There are soft shell crab tempura and crispy salmon skin in breadcrumbs, and crab roe salad amongst the more unusual offerings. And, we’d certainly want to order a bowl of ‘Calm Miso Soup’.
