What we say

There is no obvious commitment to sustainability from the San Carlo group and no clues on the menu as to where the fish come from nor how they were caught. There are several dishes which are of concern, including sea bass, giant (presumably king) prawn but without more information on the catch location and method it is impossible to be certain whether they are caught or farmed sustainably.  A 'mixed' grill of fish and 'mixed fish Mediterraneo' doesn't help. The management did not fill in our questionnaire so we have tried to assess the restaurant from what we can see online. A 0.5 red fish restaurant.

What they say

San Carlo is a group of award-winning restaurants based on authentic, modern Italy.

About San Carlo - Liverpool

Founded in Birmingham in 1992 by Carlo Distefano it expanded rapidly and now has branches in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Leicester and Bristol. The menus is virtually the same in all restaurants.

Not a seafood specialist it nevertheless offers a choice of fish dishes amongst the modern, Italian-based menu.

Gets very mixed reviews with equal measures of praise and damnation but there is a flavour of a crowded restaurant offering pricey Italian food for the English palate.
